ABLEAdult Basic Learning for Everyone - is an adult literacy programme, founded in 1980. The service offered is free and confidential. The tutoring is adult-centred and the atmosphere is friendly. Tutoring is available in:-

There are day and evening classes. Outreach classes take place in Mountview, Hartstown, Laurel Lodge, Mulhudddart, Ladyswell, Blakestown and Corduff. ABLE is always on the look-out for volunteer tutors. Volunteers work 1:1 with beginners. An initial training programme for volunteers is held in the autumn. The course runs one evening a week for 10 weeks and it is accredited as a module in the Certificate in Literacy Tutoring from Waterford Institute of Technology. Volunteer tutors are expected to tutor for at least one year. There are
opportunities to progress onto a career path in literacy work. |
