Our Accessibility Statement

We are a community web-site, and we want to be as accessible as possible. That's why we try to comply with local, national, european and international standards.

In particular, we have tried our best to comply with the standards laid down by the W3C-WCAG. These are the boys and girls who set the international standards for web-site accessibility.

So we are trying to make all pages on this site comply with W3C-WCAG AAA guidelines version 1. This is a judgement call; many guidelines are intentionally vague and cannot be tested automatically.

We are also trying to make all pages on this site comply with Bobby level AAA. This is a judgement call, too; Bobby can't check everything automatically. As a double check, we have also run the "Cynthia Says" test.

We are working towards making all pages on this site Section 508 approved, complying with all of the U.S. Federal Government Section 508 Guidelines. Again, it's a judgement call.

And we are working towards making all pages on this site validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict, but, for the time being, we only claim HTML 4.01 Transitional for most pages. If you spot a bug, let us know!

We have tried to keep content separate from presentation, by using cascading style sheets conforming to version 1. Shortly, we hope to conform to version 2, but we don't think that will make much difference as far as accessibility is concerned.

We have used the Lynx Viewer to check that pages work reasonably OK in text mode.
