Clonsilla Credit UnionYour Credit Union is well up to speed as far as the Euro is concerned. Since 1st, October, 2001, which was the start of the Credit Union's financial year, all transactions have been processed in Euro. So if you have paid money into your account recently (or taken money out!), you will have noticed that your pass book sticker looks different. All amounts have been converted to Euro. The Bottom line of every transaction shows the total Euro value and, for reference purposes, the total Punt value. From the middle of December, 2001, Euro coin starter packs were made available to members. For IEP 5, you got a range of new coins worth EUR 6.35. So by 1st, January, 2002, when the new currency was officially launched, most members of the Credit Union were familiar with the new coins. Euro notes and coins are now accepted everywhere in the European Union (except a few very backward parts, such as, for example, Manchester). Your Credit Union will be able to change an "household amount" of Irish notes and coins into Euro during the dual circulation period, which runs from 1st, January, 2002 to 9th, February, 2002. Figure up to about IEP 500 as an household amount. You will be able to deposit Irish notes and coins to your account for a time after that. The old savings stamps scheme has been replaced by a new CUCASH account, which was launched in January, 2002.
