Fastrack to Information Technology

Ever thought you could have a high-powered job in the computer industry if you didn’t have high-tech skills and qualifications? The industry says that’s just what you can have.

It’s called "Fastrack to Information Technology" — FIT. Over the next three years 3,500 long-term unemployed people from Dublin will be trained to a level of proficiency necessary to enter the IT industry in areas of skills shortage.

Blanchardstown Partnership has secured a number of these places for our area and over the next three years a number of programmes - with real jobs at the end of them - will take place locally.

The General Manager of the Corel Corporation said "FIT will develop a new credible stream of IT professionals." These new professionals are currently long-term unemployed. The Human Resources Manager of Corel said "FIT is not just another training solution to address the unemployment problem in Ireland - it is a training and development programme which creates an exciting future for in the IT industry for the long-term unemployed."

If you are unemployed and are interested in getting one of these new opportunities you may not have to wait too long to have your new and well-paid job.

The Local Employment Service will be taking applications as soon as FIT courses commence in Blanchardstown. The industry has designed all of the training programmes and they say your training will get you a job in customer support, technical support or software development and testing.

The programmes range from 13 weeks to one-year. You will be paid FÁS allowances while you are on the programme. The salary when you start work is likely to be between €15,000 and €20,000. Once you are in work, on-going training can lead to higher salaries.

Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern has said "the long term unemployed can aspire to very real jobs and career development prospects."

FIT coming to Blanchardstown is your opportunity to get started in that career!
