Aims

The objects for which the company is established are:-

To develop a community of learning and to provide all educational services and any related activities; to provide a learning system so that all people have the opportunity, and are motivated, to achieve a level of qualification which offers improved social and economic well-being. We recognise and agree with the need to address broader transferable skills and capabilities, which are essential for the initial and continuing employability of individuals, generally described as core skills. We will achieve this through the development of learning materials, public meetings, classes and conferences calculated directly and indirectly to advance the cause of lifelong learning.

To establish and carry on Core Skills programmes initially in Blanchardstown, transferring to other areas in Ireland.

To develop a nationally recognised qualification in Core Skills adapted by Government and associated qualification and curriculum assessment bodies, and to develop a nation wide focus on core skills development with community, voluntary and statutory agencies and the private sector.

To research, develop and create new ways to invest in learning opportunities through community-based activities which are relevant to people’s everyday lives whilst being innovative and sustainable.

To implement learning audits which allow learning providers to understand and satisfy the real needs of learners in terms of content, method and the over-coming of physical and psychological barriers and to encourage learning organisations and agencies to improve quality and access to learning for disadvantaged groups.

To stimulate personal motivation to learn especially with those in the community where traditionally learning achievement has been poor and where additional measures need to be taken. This will involve developing a learning culture through networks, forums, and campaigns to promote learning.

To influence and establish an overarching national strategy aimed at improving the opportunities for young people and adults to acquire core skills, including integrating core skills into learning programmes developed by statutory, voluntary and community agencies.

To strengthen the role of employers so as to create opportunities for people to develop core skills in practical settings and by producing guidance to help employers to take core skills into account in their recruitment.
