The Social EconomyThe Social Economy is generally recognized as "that part of the economy that fits between the private and public sectors and engages in economic activity in order to meet social objectives." That's why the social economy is also widely recognized as the third sector. Here are some of the ways you could get involved in social enterprise in the Blnchardstown area:- 1. If you are part of a local group and you want to check out the viability of enterprise development, you might consider community-based environmental projects, childcare, local transport, estate management or local cultural development projects. 2. If your group is affiliated to the Blanchardstown Community Forum, and you have committee and management skills, you might decide to give some voluntary time to a social enterprise that needs community representation on its board of management. 3. If you are a business owner/manager, and you would like to volunteer to share your experience with a developing social enterprise, your support would be greatly appreciated.
Some of the local enterprises being supported by the national social economy programme are:- Baptec, the local computer training facility The BASE enterprise centre, in Mulhuddart The Carer's Association, which caters for people incapacitated at home Vantastic, a service that provides transport for people with disabilities,
